Hailing from Toryglen, Glasgow, Scotland in 1977, who would have ever imagined that the then named Johnny & The Self Abusers who played their first ever gig at The Dourne Castle pub 38 years ago would embark on a journey that was to take them to the big stadias and big venues across the globe that so many bands dream of but never conquer.
The birth of Simple Minds came on the very same day Johnny & The Self Abusers released their only single 'Saints & Sinners' in November 77.
Several band members came and went in the early days of the band but Kerr & Burchill remained the nucleus of the band as if they were staying on the same bus throughout the journey whilst passengers got on and off. Big respect to the former members as they all played a part in the history of one of the worlds most successful bands.
As so many know, the band took their name from the track Gene Genie - David Bowie, one of the many artists that influenced the band and nearly 40 years on new bands arrive on to the scene speaking of how The Minds music influence their sounds.
The band have been credited as one of the best live bands in the world and no matter how far back you go, you can can see why they have been given that title. The energetic performances of Jim Kerr coupled with stadia tracks such as Waterfront, Sanctify Yourself, Alive & Kicking and a back catalogue that boasts 17 UK Top 40 albums and over 20 UK Top 40 singles shows that the band have returned to the form that many of us know and love from years gone by.
Simple Minds have just finished their Big Music UK & European Tour and are now preparing to embark on their arena tour that sees the band travel to London, Leeds, Glasgow, Dublin & Aberdeen with special guests The Stranglers.
Jim Kerr recently announced that they are already working on a new studio album, full proof that their shoes are still smoking when they arrive at their next stop.
I'm a lifelong fan and it's a dream to have Simple Minds on this site and I have full admiration for the band as they continue to add new chapters in to their Book of Brilliant Things.
You will find everything you need to know about the band. Links to their history, a discography, their latest tour news and also links to Jim Kerrs solo projects including Losyboy AKA. So sit back and enjoy a trip in to the past and more importantly, The Future!
